Sydney, December 10 – Promising Catbird filly Catseye Beach posted her first metropolitan success at Rosehill on Saturday when she charged home from the rear to win the Class Three event for three-year old fillies by more than a length.
A brilliant winner first up from a spell at Newcastle and then an unlucky fourth in Class Three company at her most recent appearance before Saturday, Catseye Beach has done nothing but improve this preparation for trainer Grahame Begg.
“She always showed ability, but in her first preparation we rode her for speed and that wasn’t really working for her, so this time around she’s been ridden back and allowed to find her feet,” said Begg.
“They sizzled in front today and she’s hit the line really well. I think there are better things in store for this filly.”
Catseye Beach was bred by Yarraman Park and retained to race in partnership with Duncan Grimley and has already returned $50,100 in prizemoney with two wins and a placing from just six starts.
A full sister to good Melbourne metropolitan performer Jennings, Catseye Beach is the tenth foal of the Imposing mare Wycombe (NZ), a half-sister to Danewin and Commands from good producer Cotehele House (GB), a daughter of legendary producer Eight Carat (GB).
Wycombe has yet to produce a stakes-winner although her daughter Catecombe is the dam of Group Two winner Impaler.
There are very few sires that produce winners as consistently as Golden Slipper winner Catbird and his draft of 31 Magic Millions yearlings are sure to be in keen demand, followed by a further 15 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
