Melbourne, March 10 – Now infertile first season sire Foreplay has been in the spotlight for his Black Opal Stakes winning son Decision Time, but added a new string to his bow when the Darren Weir trained filly Shiny and New saluted at Sandown on Wednesday.

The speedy filly made it two wins from as many starts when she graduated from an easy maiden win at Bendigo on February 21 to a metropolitan victory.

Shiny and New led throughout and despite being headed in the run to the line, fought back like a tiger to post a short half head win in the 1000 metre dash for restricted juvenile fillies.

A homebred for Robin Shakespear and her family, Shiny and New is from Shags’ Sister, who was bought by Mrs Shakespear for $4,000 at the 2007 Inglis Broodamre Sale when in foal to Foreplay with the result being Shiny and New.

Like her name suggests, Shags’ Sister is a winning half-sister by Honour and Glory (USA) to former classy stakes-winning sprinter Shags.

A stakes-winning son of Danehill (USA) who retired to stud at Yarraman Park, Foreplay now has two winners from 11 runners, both of them well above average.
