Melbourne, October 29 – Magic Albert was represented by his fourth stakes horses at Moonee Valley on Saturday when the smart Gary Portelli trained filly Maritess ran second in the Listed MVRC Mornmoot Stud Stakes.
Having her first run in Melbourne this preparation following a solid first up win and good second in Sydney, Maritess was sent off favourite in the 1600 metre event but after getting back to last in the middle stages had to content herself with second place going down by a short neck to Manna Miss.
A $30,000 purchase from the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale by renowned racehorse syndicator Harry Lawton, Maritess has now won three of nine starts earning $98,450.
Maritess was bred and offered for sale by Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds and is the fourth foal of Positive Flyer, a winning daughter of Group One winning mare Dinky Flyer by the Zephyr Bay horse Full and By.
Magic Albert also featured in New Zealand where his three-year old colt Alberto finished third to Jokers Wild in the Group Two Wellington Thoroughbred Breeders Guineas.
