Sydney, October 27 – Popular Randwick trainer Grahame Begg has enjoyed much success this spring with classy Magic Albert colt Ilovethiscity, but it was a filly by the same sire that had him in the winner’s circle at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Magita made it two wins from three starts when she overpowered another smart filly in Tigress Lilly to win the restricted fillies event over 1250 metres by more than a length with apprentice rider Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

“He gave her a gun ride and the gate (barrier two) helped… she’s nothing if not game,” said Grahame Begg.

“She has done a good job and will go to the paddock for a break now.

“She’ll take plenty of improvement from this preparation and there are many more wins in store.”

Magita was a $70,000 purchase from the Ascot Park draft at the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and is raced by members of the McGrath family.

Magita is the second foal of the End Sweep (USA) winner Lukita, a daughter of Irish Group Three winner From the Wood.

Lukita was one of 125 mares covered last spring by Magic Albert, who also had a winner at Bendigo on Wednesday with Barterer opening his account for Ballarat trainer Terry Kelly at his second race start.
