Brisbane, May 31 – Stakes-winning Catbird mare Litter added to her already impressive resume by winning the Listed QTC Sir Williams Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Taking on colts and geldings over 1500 metres, Litter improved from her last start third to Sung in the Listed Dark Jewel Classic at Scone to score a powerful win.
Trained by Kris Lees for himself and Tony Bott’s E Thoroughbred Syndicate, Litter has won five races and placed 11 times from 26 starts earning a tick over $200,000 in prizemoney and will be offered for sale at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Wednesday.
“The other day at Scone (when third to Sung) she just got too far back and it was a really good run,” said Tony Bott.
"I was still a bit worried at the top of the straight when she was back on the fence, but she is one of those mares who likes to get to the outside with some galloping room."
A $60,000 purchase for Tony Bott from the Wakefield Stud draft at the 2003 Inglis Weanling Sale, Litter is one of three winners produced by the Chromite mare Alkimiya (USA), who comes from an international Black Type family.
Litter continues a great year for her sadly deceased sire Catbird, who has produced over 80 winners this season of more than $2.5 million in prizemoney, his last crop of foals now weanlings.
Catbird showed his versatility as a sire at the weekend in not only producing Litter, but also Rumbird, winner of the $100,000 quality staying event over 2500 metres at Flemington, Danzulu, a smart winner at Sha Tin and slick juvenile Confounded, a six length winner at Kembla Grange for the Peter Snowden stable.
Stakes-placed behind All American and Hybrid earlier in the year, Confounded will be winning in town sooner rather than later.
