The $100,000 SA Schweppes Sprint Final at Morphettville on Saturday was won by speedy gelding Shaf, a $420,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Shadwell from the draft of Yarraman Park. Trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, the four year-old son of Wanted had been in red hot form of late winning three of his previous four runs. He did a great job to beat a big field of 20 to win the 1100 metre dash by more than a length taking his overall record to six wins and seven placings from 23 starts with prizemoney topping $200,000. Shaf is a half-brother to Group III winners Bliss Street and Jade Marauder being from the top producing stakes-winner Jade Diva. Yarraman Park will offer a placed Hinchinbrook filly from Jade Diva called Leap Lively at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as Lot 674. Earlier in the day I Am Invincible four year-old gelding Illustrious Lad saluted by more than two lengths for the Peter Gelagotis stable over 1200 metres as favourite, his seventh win from 22 starts. A $40,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft, he’s been a great acquisition for part-owner Anthony Panozzo.
