October 1 – Promising New Zealand based Magic Albert three-year old Magic Cape made his stakes debut at Ellerslie on Saturday finishing third in the Listed AuRC Stella Artois Bonecrusher Stakes over 1400 metres.

The Shaune Ritchie trained youngster had two starts for two wins coming into the race, but was beaten a length and a head in finishing third to the blue-blooded filly Bonaichi.

Ridden back in the field and held up for a run, Magic Cape charged to the line and will be suited when he steps up even further in distance.

A $50,000 purchase from the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale last year, Magic Cape is the first living foal of the Kaapstad mare Cape City, a half-sister to Group One placed Quite Astute from the family of champion NZ filly Rosie’s Girl.
