Sydney, February 14 – Grey skies and a track rated a slow six were not enough to dampen the turn of foot showed by Magic Albert three year-old Marchinski, who zoomed clear to win the Group Three AJC Frederick Clissold Stakes by nearly two lengths at Randwick on Saturday.
Luckless when held up for a run and beaten out of a place at Rosehill on January 31, the Tracey Bartley trained Marchinski atoned for that out of character defeat with a brilliant win in the 1200 metre sprint against older rivals, his first attempt at a Black Type event.
“That was a lovely ride,” Bartley said.
“He used the alley [2] and gave him a soft run until up the rise and the horse showed a good turn of foot.
“We bred this horse and race him with some people from up the bush so we are over the moon.”
A lightly raced gelding, packed with potential, Marchinski has won three races and placed three times from seven starts earning $137,250 in prizemoney.
Marchinski was bred by Tracey Bartley and fetched $125,000 when put through the 2007 Inglis Christmas Thoroughbred Sale at which he was the top priced offering.
Now raced by a group of ten owners, Marchinski is a half-brother to stakes-winner Shepishir being from the good producer Elishir, a half-sister to another smart stakes-winner in Spy Zaim.
Elishir has a yearling filly by Magic Albert and also produced a full brother to Marchinski last spring.
Marchinski is the fifth stakes-winner for Magic Albert, whose progeny sold for up to $100,000 at the recent Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and who also posted winners at Eagle Farm and Newcastle on Saturday with wins for Abbacina and Magic Tyson.
