Sydney, May 16 – Consistent Magic Albert three year-old Nicaragua ended a frustrating run of minor placings when he broke through for a well deserved first win at Randwick on Wednesday.

Given a perfect run by Nash Rawiller from barrier two, the Gai Waterhouse trained Nicaragua got home to win his maiden by half a length in becoming the 34th individual winner this season for Magic Albert.

A $45,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Stratheden Stud, Nicaragua has a win and five placings from nine starts for his owner Mrs Yvonne Smith and will collect an additional $10,000 BOBS bonus for his win.

A half-brother to stakes-placed Mimidae, Nicaragua is the last foal of the Caerleon mare Sufuf (GB) who died in 2005.

Magic Albert covered 180 mares at Yarraman Park last spring and will be popular again this year, his fee set at $16,500.
