Sydney April 14 – Improving Catbird filly Purrpurrlena made a swift transition from a maiden win to metropolitan success taking out the three year-old fillies event over 1400 metres at Randwick on Easter Monday.

Given a beautiful ride by Hugh Bowman, Purrpurrlena crept through along the inside to post a narrow but impressive win in driving rain.

“That’s a great result for her owners Brian Singer and Alan Green of Echo Beach Bloodstock as she’s had a few little attitude issues for us to sort out,” said trainer Grahame Begg.

“She’ll keep improving now and is two for two this time in, so has done a really good job.”

A $155,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Purrpurrlena is a full sister to Group Two placed sprinter Star Cat being from the former smart stakes-winner Magdalena.

Yarraman sold another Catbird colt from Magdalena at Magic Millions this year, the youngster fetching $150,000 to the bid of Alan Acton.
