Red Queen Relation for Yarraman
Sydney, January 7 – Powerhouse mare Red Queen made it a winning hat-trick when she scored a soft victory in the fillies and mares event at Rosehill on Saturday over 1300 metres.
Bred by the New Zealand based Bax family, Red Queen was purchased privately from the draft of Yarraman Park as agent by Magic Millions Director Rob Ferguson after passing in at the 2004 Inglis Australian Eater Yearling Sale and has overcome several issues including a wind operation to emerge as a mare with genuine stakes potential.
Placed expertly through the grades by her trainer Gary Portelli, Red Queen has won four of eight starts earning $127,650 and will now have a brief let-up before targeting some Black Type mares races in the autumn.
Red Queen is a half-sister to this season’s Group Two winner She Will Be Loved, the only three-year old filly in the land to post a win over the champion Miss Finland.
Another half-sister to Red Queen is the stakes-placed Desert King (IRE) mare Mya, whose first foal will be offered by Yarraman Park as Lot 155 at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
A stylish brown filly by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA), her extended family also features Group One winning Hong Kong sprinter All Thrills Too, Group Two winners Silky Red Boxer and Soleil Rouge, with a recent update to include unbeaten Kiwi stakes-winning juvenile Crossyourheart, which jumps into the third dam.
