Melbourne, November 7 – Classy Catbird filly Catechuchu showed a return to form at Flemington on Tuesday when she powered home for second in the Listed VRC Seppelt Wines Stakes over 1400 metres.
A stakes-winner at two last season for the David Hayes stable, Catechuchu has enjoyed little favour this preparation with wide barriers and some poor luck in running conspiring to keep her out of the placings.
Given a month long freshen up following an unplaced effort in the Group One AJC Flight Stakes, the filly appeared bright and enthusiastic for this assignment and ran accordingly.
Purchased by renowned judge Mark Pilkington for $50,000 from the draft of Collingrove Stud at the 2005 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Catechuchu is from the Dahar (USA) mare Noble Fleur, a half-sister to Group Three winner Toy Image and stakes-winner and stakes producer Lucky Witch.
Catechuchu can no doubt be placed to advantage by the Hayes stable in these last few weeks of the spring carnival.
