Fresh from winning the Blue Diamond on Saturday with star colt Pride of Dubai, the Peter and Paul Snowden training duo were quickly back in form with another smart two year old at Muswellbrook on Tuesday with Hinchinbrook filly Flippant bolting away with the Greg Cribb Memorial Open Juvenile event.
A race with sentimental value for Peter Snowden, whose brother-in-law was the late jockey Greg Cribb, the juvenile event attracted a smart field, but they were no match for Flippant.
She jumped well for Mitchell Bell and travelled on the pace before dashing right away to win the 900 meter scamper by four and a half lengths.
“She’ll go a lot further than a Muswellbrook maiden,” said stable representative Jackson Beirs.
“It was great of the owners to allow us to bring her up for this race which means a lot to the whole Snowden family.”
A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase for McKeever Bloodstock from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft, Flippant runs for a big syndicate that includes Yarraman Park, who stand her sire Hinchinbrook.
She’s bred to be above average as the second winner from two to race for Lady Beckworth, who is a winning half-sister by General Nediym to the dam of Group I stars Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel.
“She travelled superbly throughout,” said Mitchell Bell.
“She had them covered very quickly and it was just a matter if keeping her concentrating to the line.”
Closely related to Atlantic Jewel, who is by Hinchinbrook’s sire Fastnet Rock, Flippant was the most expensive filly from the first crop of Hinchinbrook and will be well worth following when she comes to town.
Flippant is the fourth winner for Hinchinbrook, who has made a great start to his stud career and is up running second on the Australian First Season Sires List by earnings.
