Ballarat, December 24 – Three year-old Catbird filly Dumetella landed some good bets when she bolted in on debut at Ballarat on Christmas Eve.

Well supported in the market, the Robert Smerdon trained filly always looked the winner and surged clear down the running to win the 1000 metre maiden by an easy six lengths.

Raced by the MT Racing Syndicate, Dumetella was secured by Aquanita Racing for $70,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Offered as the very last horse in Session One, Dumetella is a full sister to former smart metropolitan winning juvenile Meriwether being from the Centaine mare Janome Heights.

A good metropolitan winner of five races up to 1400 metres, Janome Heights comes from the family of Group One winners Mapperley Heights, Royal Heights and Sky Heights.

Dumetella’s sire Catbird also figured on the weekend when his four year-old son Letmeentertainyou scored at Morphettville, boosting his prizemoney beyond $56,000.

Golden Slipper Catbird passed away prematurely earlier this year and the foals arriving this season will be his last.
