Trainer Peter Moody handed out a free tip by bypassing the meeting a Sandown on Saturday with first starter Speedy Natalie, electing instead to take on stakes company in the Sporting Bet Dequetteville Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.

Given plenty of time by Linda Meech to find her feet, Speedy Natalie (Al Maher x Speedy Bell (Brocco (USA)) came from second last of the eight runners to cruise past pacesetter Tariks (Rock Of Gibraltar) to win by 4 ¾-lengths with favourite I’m Discreet (Elusive Quality) 2-lengths back in third.

A $70,000 purchase by Bill Mitchell from the Yarraman Park consignment at last year’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, Speedy Natalie is the fifth foal of the stakes-winning Brocco mare Speedy Bell.

Trained by Steve Englebrecht, Speedy Bell started just four times. She made a stunning debut in the 1999 AJC Gimcrack Stakes (LR), winning by 2 ¾-lengths at her only start of the season. It proved to be her only win. At three she finished second at Rosehill before finishing third in the Listed Heritage Stakes won by Zariz. She was not seen out again after finishing down the track in the Reginald Allen Quality. She is a half-sister to listed winner and dual Group 2 placed Whoever (Redoute’s Choice) and the stakes-placed Superforce (Mukaddamah).

Yarraman secured Speedy Bell for $160,000 from the Kanowna Stud dispersal sale at the Gold Coast.

The daughter of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Brocco (USA) has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock and was bred back to the son of Danehill last year after missing in 2007.
