Hong Kong June 16 – Exciting three year-old Sichuan Success made it two wins in as many starts when he saluted for leading trainer John Size at Sha Tin on Wednesday.
An impressive winner on debut at Sha Tin on May 23, the son of Fastnet Rock went right on with it in the Class Three event over 1200 metres, drawing clear to win for Douglas Whyte by three parts of a length.
"Sichuan Success is a great example of how John just has the knack of getting his young horses to keep improving. We needed to be more positive from the gate and he’s jumped like a professional and put himself in position without fuss,” Douglas Whyte told South China Morning Post.
"He settled, had a lovely breather and was going well enough to find room between horses when we needed to.
"We didn’t have an easy time of it in the race and the second horse, Praising, came up to beat us, but Sichuan dug deep right to the line."
Purchased for a modest $135,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by John Foote Bloodstock, Sichuan Success is the ninth foal of terrific producer Coureuse.
He is a half-brother to stakes-placed Tom Coureuse and Pirouettes as well as good HK galloper Yellow Diamond, his dam a daughter of Magic Millions winner Dancer’s Joy.
