Sydney, May 30 – Improving Magic Albert filly Petulie made a successful step up in grade from a runaway win at the provincials last start to a midweek metropolitan success at Canterbury on Wednesday over 1200 metres.
Given a perfect run by Tye Angland, Petulie hugged the fence in third spot before switching across the heels of the leaders at the top of the straight.
The Allan Denham trained filly lengthened stride nicely going on to score by more than a length, running faster time than first division of the race won by highly rated colt Cravings.
“She had a really good run and once we got clear she let down and hit the line well,” said Angland.
Petulie has two wins and a second from four starts and could easily continue on her winning way over the next few weeks.
Bred and retained by Geoff and Beryl White, Petulie is the third foal of the Danehill (USA) mare Tramore a half-sister to champion filly Triscay, who won 15 races and $1.9 million for the Whites in a glittering career.
Other prominent family members include Group One winners Defier, La Baraka and Demerger, so Petulie is lacking for nothing on the score of pedigree.
Petulie is one of 36 individual Australian winners this season for Magic Albert, who is the leading second season sire by winners and will stand this season at Yarraman Park at a fee of $16,500.
