Melbourne May 20 – Back in winning form at Sandown on Wednesday was talented Royal Academy (USA) mare Royal Snippets, a half-sister to Group One winner Snitzel secured by Wadham Park for $775,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Resuming from a spell in the 1000 metre dash for open class fillies and mares, Royal Snippets settled off the pace for accomplished jockey Steve Baster and finished full of running to defeat the favourite Nuclear Force with stakes-winning filly Woppitt back in third place.

“We’re very happy with that as we thought the 1000 metres might have been a bit short,” said her trainer Dale Sutton.

“She can be very cantankerous and has a mind of her own, so Steve Baster does most of the work with her.”

Lightly raced, Royal Snippets has won two races and placed four times from nine starts earning more than $50,000 in prizemoney, but still has a bit to learn according to Steve Baster.

“She’s still racing greenly even though she’s had a few runs,” said Baster.

“I’ve always liked her even if she can be a bit of a handful, but she’s put it altogether today.”

Bred by Francis Naude and foaled, raised and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Royal Snippets is by Royal Academy (USA) from the good producing stakes-winner Snippets’ Lass, dam of Group One MRC Oakleigh Plate winner Snitzel and smart Group Three winner Viennese as well as stakes-placed Wiener.

Royal Snippets was the second highest priced filly sold at Magic Millions in 2006 and has been given time to mature by the Wadham Park team who look set to gain from that decision.

Snippets’ Lass sadly passed away in 2007 and Royal Snippets is one of only three fillies from this first class producer, so she will be a most valuable asset for Wadham Park when her racing days are done.
