August 29 – Respected Hunter Valley breeder Jim Bartholomew of Barador Stud has been enjoying the burgeoning success of boom Melbourne galloper Spielmeister and last week saw the arrival of his baby half-sister by Magic Albert.

“She’s a lovely filly by Magic Albert, born last week on the 23rd,” said Bartholomew.

Bartholomew owns Spielmeister’s dam The Joy Luck Club (NZ), who descends from celebrated broodmare Denise’s Joy.

“We’ve had a bit of luck with the family in the past having had good success with Crowning Jewel, who produced the stakes-winners Wild Queen and Cumbria for us,” said Bartholomew.

“The Denise’s Joy family is just outstanding although The Joy Luck Club’s branch is yet to really do it, but Spielmeister looks very promising and David Hayes is the right trainer to get him to the big races.”

Spielmeister is entered for everything this spring and has won all three starts since resuming from a winter spell, earning overall prizemoney of $170,000.

If Spielmeister can indeed deliver on the potential he has shown to date then his half-sister by Magic Albert will be a valuable commodity for Bartholomew whether offered in a sale ring or retained by the stud to continue this highly commercial female family.

Magic Albert has again been strongly supported by breeders this spring and will cover well over 100 mares in the next few months.
