Adelaide, May 2 – Ill fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird was in hot form at the weekend with an interstate stakes double courtesy of brilliant two year-old Facile Tigre, winner of the Listed Ken Russell Classic at the Gold Coast and classy filly Burgeis, who saluted in Listed company at Morphettville.

Placed in both the Group One MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and Group Two VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at two, the Tony Vasil trained Burgeis finally posted a stakes win when successful in the Listed SAJC Proud Miss Stakes over 1200 metres.

Drawn the outside and eased back to last, Burgeis flew home to score by a neck in an eye-catching performance taking her overall record to two wins and four placings from 13 starts with prizemoney of $212,845.

Racing in the familiar colours of Elvstroem and Haradasun, Burgeis is raced by the Arch of Gold Syndicate managed by Frank Tagg, the connections enjoying a very good run with their current batch of two year-olds.

Burgeis was purchased by Aquanita Racing for $160,000 at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Lustre Lodge and was their only entry in the sale, also the only entry for her Golden Slipper winning sire Catbird.

Burgeis is the fourth foal and first stakes-winner for the good metropolitan winner Grand Performance, a half-sister by Palace Music (USA) to Golden Slipper winner and promising young sire Stratum.
