Sydney, September 28 – Third to Atlantic Jewel and Mosheen in the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas as a three year-old, five year-old Sharnee Rose has never quite lived up to that early potential until today.

Now trained by Kris Lees and sporting the Australian Bloodstock colours, Sharnee Rose finally captured a Black Type event when outpointing Group I winner Red Tracer to take the Group III ATC Golden Pendant over 1400 metres.

The daughter of Nadeem was sent out as a rank outsider, given her average form of late, but belied the long odds to return a winner, her overall record now three wins and 10 placings from 23 starts with  prizemoney of $389,400.

“It’s great to get that Group win for the boys as they paid plenty for her,” said Kris Lees.

“We came here thinking she was a genuine place chance, so it’s great to get the win.”

Winning rider Brenton Avdulla gave Sharnee Rose a perfect ride.

“We got on the back of Nash on Red Tracer and that was perfect. I thought she had us, but my mare had a fitness edge.”

Originally a $40,000 purchase for Northwood Park from the Yarraman Park draft during Session II at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Sharnee Rose was bred by Shadwell Australia and foaled and raised at Yarraman.

Sold privately to Australian Bloodstock earlier this year, Sharnee Rose is the best of three winners from Farasha, a half-sister by Jeune (GB) to the dam of Group I winner Rewaaya from the family of former leading sire Snippets and Golden Slipper winner Forensics.
