Sydney, December 4 – Talented Magic Albert filly Albertina notched her first metropolitan success at Canterbury on Thursday night in a powerful performance that saw the filly coast home to win by two lengths.
Settled back midfield and allowed to find her feet in the 1200 metre event non metro winning three year-old fillies, she accelerated in fine style for Hugh Bowman on straightening, her superiority never in doubt.
Prepared by Gai Waterhouse for a large syndicate of 10 Star Thoroughbreds owners, Albertina looks a promising filly with two wins from three starts.
“She appreciated the drop back to 1200 metres after having a few weeks off to freshen up and after the dust settles from this win, we’ll look to program her for something similar,” said Star Thoroughbreds principal Denise Martin.
Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Albertina fetched $115,000 to the bid of Martin at the 2005 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and is the most expensive filly sired by Magic Albert.
A half-sister to six winners including good metropolitan performer Newington Style, Albertina is the eighth and final foal of stakes-placed Vaslav (USA) mare Pagan Dance who died in 2005.
Magic Albert has seven yearlings catalogued for the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale (January 11 – 19) and three for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale (February (10 – 12).
