With six placings including a couple of stakes-placings talented I Am Invincible mare Sylph was long overdue to break her maiden and got the job done last Friday night at the Gold Coast.

Trained by Michael Freedman, Sylph ended her last campaign with third in the $3m Sunlight 3YO Plate (1200m) behind Grafterburners at the Gold Coast.

She was then was placed first up in the Listed BRC Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) before not all went to plan in the Group III Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) behind Beadman.

Dropped back in grade to a 1200m maiden with Jamie Melham to ride, Sylph duly saluted by half a length and will take great confidence from the win.

A half-sister to Group I winner Booker and stakes-winner Banquo, Sylph was bred and retained to race by Yarraman Park and is the sixth winner from eight foals to race from Noondie, and is also a three-quarter -sister-in-blood to stakes-placed Ernaux.

Yarraman Park sold a yearling full brother to Sylph at this year’s Magic Millions yearling sale to Gollan Racing and John Foote Bloodstock for $500,000.

Noondie was covered by Brave Smash (Jpn) last spring.
