Brisbane, January 27 – Golden Slipper winner Catbird sired his tenth individual stakes-winner at Eagle Farm on Saturday when the Alan Bailey trained mare Coincidental broke through for a well deserved first Black Type win in the Listed QTC Cadell-Garrick Stakes over 1200 metres.
Backed into favouritism, Coincidental was ridden a treat by Glen Colless, finishing with a well timed run to hit the front after straightening before going on to score by more than a length.
As honest as the day is long, Coincidental has won nine races and placed eight times from 27 starts earning $285,300, providing a sensational return on her purchase price of just $65,000.
Coincidental was snapped by leading Kiwi judge Paul Moroney from the draft of Willow Park Stud as agent at the 2003 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is the third foal of the Prego (IRE) mare Capishe, a full sister to four-time Group One winner Primacy.
Coincidental brought up the second leg of a winning double at Eagle Farm for Catbird with two year-old gelding Only Feathers getting home by a half head in a thrilling finish to the open juvenile event over 1200 metres.
Trained by Bruce McLachlan, Only Feathers was a $60,000 purchase from Session Five at the Magic Millions last year and is the fifth foal of the Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Redeswood, who comes from the family of four-time Group One winner Desert War.
Catbird enjoyed great results at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale with 18 of his stock averaging $125,444 and his progeny are sure to be in keen demand at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale (15) and Inglis Premier Yearling Sale (6).
Yarraman Park Stud will present just two yearlings at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Lot 392, a Catbird colt from stakes-placed Fabled (NZ) and Lot 40, a Tale of the Cat (USA) colt from the stakes-winner Presina, a proven producer of four winners including stakes-placed Faster Pussycat.
