Sydney, July 5 – The open juvenile event at Rosehill on Saturday was won by rapidly improving colt Mirabeau, a $520,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Placed at his first two starts, the Tim Martin trained Mirabeau was fitted with blinkers for this assignment and showed the benefit in leading throughout to win the 1200 metre event by more than a length in a dominant display.
“I couldn’t believe he got beaten at Kembla last time,” Martin said.
“He’s always shown me a lot and the blinkers helped him focus today.”
Mirabeau is the fourth foal and second winner for Group Two STC Silver Slipper winner French Braids, a Flying Spur mare, whose third dam is celebrated producer Fanfreluche.
It’s a family that has been in the spotlight of late with the Danehill (USA) mare Milanova, a grand-daughter of Fanfreluche, fetching a Southern Hemisphere record price of $5milion at the Inglis Breeding Stock Sale last Sunday.
Mirabeau has an intriguing pedigree as he is line bred three times to Fanfreluche through his sire Encosta de Lago, dam sire Flying Spur and direct tail female line.
Mirabeau is yet another good juvenile winner this season sold by Yarraman Park, the Mitchell family run farm also responsible for Group STC Two Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream (Magic Millions $250,000), Listed winner Viennese (Magic Millions $1.4 million), both fillies by Redoute’s Choice and recent metropolitan winners by Encosta de Lago – Infatuation (Magic Millions $250,000) and Margham (Inglis Easter $700,000).
