Brisbane, August 12 – Expensive Catbird gelding Golden Kid was able to overcome an outside barrier and a field of 18 to score a bold front running win in the $45,000 maiden event against the older horses at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

The Pat Duff trained three year-old flew the gates and led throughout, improving on his debut second at the Sunshine Coast on July 19 to take the 1400 metre contest by more than a length in a promising performance.

A $350,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Golden Kid is from the good producer Sakhalin (USA), a half-sister by Kingmambo to the dams of Group One winner Sudan and Australian Group Three winner Red Trinket.

Sakhalin has had four foals to race all winners, the best of them being Group Three placed Stalingrad.

Golden Kid is bred on a similar cross to last season’s dual Group One winner Gallica, being by a son of Danehill (USA) from a daughter of Kingmambo, his pedigree and conformation sufficient to make him the highest priced Catbird sold in 2008.

The last crop of yearlings by ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird were sold earlier this year and he has 18 of them nominated for the 2010 Golden Slipper Stakes.
