Adelaide, August 17 – Resuming from a spell to score an easy win at Morphettville on Saturday was interestingly bred three year-old filly Azwa, who was raised at Yarraman Park for Shadwell.

A winner on debut at Sandown back in March and then second to promising filly Mont Fleuri, the David Hayes trained Azwa was sent out a heavily backed favourite and did not disappoint, kicking clear to win the 1050 metre event by more than a length.

Foaled at the Fairwinds quarantine station and raised at Yarraman Park, Azwa is the only Australian winner for European based sire Haafhd, who stands at Shadwell’s Nunnery Stud in England.

A son of the Northern Dancer line horse Alhaarth, Haafhd won the 2004 English Two Thousand Guineas and his oldest Northern Hemisphere bred progeny are three year-olds and include this year’s Group Two winning juvenile Grecian Silver.

Azwa was conceived in the Northern Hemisphere to SH time, her dam Mihnah sent to Australia in 2006 to Yarraman Park.

The dam of three winners in Europe including stakes-placed Tahtheeb, Mihnah is a half-sister to Group Three winner Ranin by the Riverman horse Lahib.

Azwa is her fifth foal and her current two year-old , a colt by Elusive Quality (USA) was passed in shy of his reserve at Magic Millions this year and has been retained to race.

Mihnah produced a colt by Nadeem last spring and is due to foal to the Blue Diamond winner again.
