Sydney, June 8 – Maintaining his unbeaten record at Moonee Valley on Wednesday was talented colt Stratumsphere, who scored a bold victory over stakes-winning filly Eramor.
Trained by Tony Noonan, the son of Stratum made it two wins in as many starts when he led all the way and kicked strongly in the straight to bolt away and win the 1000 metre dash by close to four lengths in heavy conditions.
“He’s a nice colt and he’s done a super job as he had a stress fracture in a hind leg back in the spring when he was getting ready for the Magic Millions, so we had to put him out and he’s come back really well,” Noonan said.
“He’s always been a good, forward sort of colt and just wanted to be a racehorse. His sire has done a great job and we’ve purchased a few of them, I just think they are nice horses.”
Stratumsphere was a $70,000 purchase for his trainer from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2010 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Bred by Yarraman Park’s Harry Mitchell, who retained a share in the colt, Stratumsphere is a half-brother to stakes-winner Carlton Spirit and stakes-placed Carlton Ace being one of eight winners from smart stakes placed producer Aces Royale.
