A full sister to G3 winner The Three Hundred, talented I Am Invincible mare Monte Supreme has been working towards a Stakes win of her own and got the job done at Eagle Farm on Saturday when taking out the $160,000 Listed BRC Lightning Quality (1000m).

Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Rachel King, Monte Supreme has been competitive without winning in five previous runs in Black Type races this preparation, so was well overdue for a win.

Dropped back to 1000m for this assignment with her blinkers back on, Monte Supreme found that little bit extra she needed and was too strong for the favourite Steady Ready, winning by half a length.

“I didn’t have a lot of choice but to stick to the fence. I did walk the track before the races, and I thought it felt pretty even right the way across. They’ve pushed the rail out so there’s some fresh ground, and she really relished it,” said Rachel King.

“She’s a big, strong mare, and she’s been running super but hasn’t had any luck with the barrier draws. She’s drawn terribly, but she drew a bit better today, and the blinkers went back on, which helped spark her up a little bit. She’s got an outstanding record over the trip, I think she’s only been beaten once over 1000 metres.”

Monte Supreme has the overall record of six wins and five placings from 22 starts with prizemoney topping $485,000.

She was an $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Yarraman Park for Vic Bates’ Roughwood Park and was bred by Allam Racing and foaled and raised at Yarraman Park.

She is the second stakes-winner from stakes-winning Smart Missile mare Sassy ‘n’ Smart, a half-sister to G3 winner Mallory tracking back to French G1 winner Nebraska Tornado.

Monte Supreme is the 127th Stakes winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible, who stands at a fee of $220,000 including GST this spring.
