Melbourne, October 27 – Five year-old Lonhro gelding Veewap found his best form when saluting in the $40,000 Open Handicap at Bendigo on Cup Day.

The Tony Vasil trained Veewap was sent out favourite and proved too good under a strong ride from Nash Rawiller to win the 1400 metre event by half a neck.

“He’s a very consistent horse and has had some bad luck on occasion, but he’s been lucky today,” said Tony Vasil.

Sporting the renowned red, black and white colours of the late syndicator Harry Lawton, Veewap was snapped up from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $110,000 and has won seven races and placed seven times from 22 starts earning $195,468.

Veewap has an impressive pedigree being a half-brother to Group Two winner So Gorgeous and Group Three winners Wild Queen and Cumbria from the top class producer Crowning Jewel, who is now retired from stud duties.
