Sydney, April 16 – Sales action will continue at Newmarket today with the first session of the Inglis Australian Select Broodmare Sale, which will feature outstanding dual Group One winner Virage de Fortune to be presented by Yarraman Park as agent.
The dashing grey daughter of Anabaa (USA) finished sixth to Bentley Biscuit in the Group One AJC All Aged Stakes over 1400 metres at Randwick on Saturday after leading for much of the journey.
Virage de Fortune will enter the sale ring as Lot 366 and many good judges are tipping she will give the current record price paid for a broodmare at public auction in Australia a run for its money.
The record was set at $2,050,000 by Mannington at the Vinery Dispersal in 2005, when Darley acquired her for their vast international breeding operation.
Apart from an impressive race record of eight wins and $954,100, highlighted by Group One victories in the MVRC Australia Stakes and QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Virage de Fortune also comes from a superb family, her dam Virage, a daughter of Emancipation, one of the best mares to ever race in this country.
A daughter of champion sire Bletchingly, Emancipation was awarded Australian Horse of the Year in 1984, winning 19 races including six at Group One level and has proven influential at stud, her daughters producing Caulfield Cup winner Railings and Group Two winner Magneto.
Very few mares with the credentials of Virage de Fortune ever come on the open market and the successful bidder will be securing a rare and most valuable acquisition.
