Mar 19 – Wednesday proved a fruitful day for horses consigned for sale by Yarraman Park with wins for Egyptian Lova (Sandown), Purrpurrlena (Newcastle) and Champagne Sisters (Balaklava).

Last week Egyptian Lova got a mention in a story when his mother Wooden Melody had the honour of producing three winners in a week and he carried the good form of his last big win at the provincials to town on Wednesday to score in the Ratings 72 event at Sandown over 1300 metres.

Trained by David Hayes for his breeders Tim and Jackie Hughes who retained him after he passed in at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Egyptian Lova has now won two of four starts.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman, Egyptian Lova is by Lonhro from the Woodman (USA) mare Wooden Melody, a half-sister to Group One winner Emerald Dream from the Cotehele House (GB) branch of the Eight Carat (GB) family.

Resuming from a spell of 25 weeks after finishing second twice at two of her first three starts, the Grahame Begg trained Catbird filly Purrpurrlena went to Newcastle in tip top order following two recent trials and raced accordingly.

Sent out favourite, she settled off the pace and took over with 150 metres to run, surging clear to win the 1200 metre maiden by more than a length.

A $155,000 purchase from the Yarraman draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Purrpurrlena is a full sister to Group Two placed Star Cat being from the stakes-winning Snaadee (USA) mare Magdalena.

A three year-old filly by Anabaa (USA) from the Group Three winner Vestey, the David Hayes trained Champagne Sisters broke her maiden in style when she bolted away to win by nearly four lengths over 1400 metres at Balaklava.

Placed at two of her three previous runs, Champagne Sisters was well overdue to break the ice and will have gained plenty of confidence from the ease of this win.

Champagne Sisters was purchased by Mark Pilkington for $200,000 from the Yarraman draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Rutherford Eagle being from the good Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Vestey, who comes from the very successful the Gypsy Moss (IRE) family.
