May 2 – Australia’s leading first season sire I Am Invincible was in hot form at Muswellbrook on Friday, his offspring capturing both divisions of the open juvenile handicap.
First to salute was the Rod Northam trained Voodoo Lad, who sported the colours of Segenhoe Thoroughbreds.
He improved on a debut second back in January, resuming from a break to take the 1000 metre scamper by half a length.
Voodoo Lad was a $36,000 Inglis Scone Select Sale purchase for Segenhoe from the draft of Yarraman Park and is the third winner for O’Fortuna, whose dam is a sister to champion sprinter Schillaci.
Making it a winning double was speedy filly Deceptive, who made it two wins from three starts when cruising clear to win by nearly two lengths in the fillies division.
A $28,000 Inglis Classic purchase for her trainer Jenny Graham from the Glenlee draft, Deceptive is the second winner for Lucky Tricks, a half-sister to stakes-winner Chading.
I Am Invincible leads the Australian First Season Sires List by earnings and winners, his 12 winners in total (one in New Zealand) including stakes-winners Vinnie Eagle, Bassillique and Fuld’s Bet.
Yarraman Park have given him a deserved fee increase and he will stand at $27,500.
