Hong Kong, May 27 – Former Australian stakes-winner Master Archie broke through for his first Hong Kong win at Sha Tin on Sunday when he took out the Class Three event over 1400 metres under the name of Master Power.
Winner of the BTC T.J.Smith Slipper in December of 2005, he later transferred to the stable of John Moore and after putting the writing on the wall with two recent fourths was able to post his first Hong Kong success.
Superbly ridden by Douglas Whyte, Master Power finished along the fence with a powerful burst to grab the tearaway leader and go on for an easy length and three quarter win.
Master Power was a successful pinhook for Yarraman Park, having been purchased as a weanling for just $9,000 from the draft of Yallambee Stud at the 2004 Inglis June Weanling Sale and then re-offered by Yarraman Park at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale where he made $50,000 in Session Six to the bid of Cameron McPhie.
Master Power won $107,100 in prizemoney in Australia before his sale to Hong Kong so has been a winner for everyone.
He is the sixth foal and only stakes-winner from the Archregent (USA) mare Efficiency, who hails from the family of Group Two AJC St Leger winner Gold Sovereign.
