The 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast last week provided amazing results for Yarraman Park and our flagship sire I Am Invincible, who was the leading covering sire by average with nine mares offered in foal to him selling at an average $852,778.
Three mares in foal to I Am Invincible sold for seven figures – Lipari (dam of Group I winner Levendi) made $1.6 million for Twin Hills Stud when bought by Baramul Stud; Members Joy (dam of Group II winner Pure Elation) made $1.45 million for Newgate Farm when bought by Aquis Farm and stakes-winner Vezalay made $1million for Newgate Farm when bought by Widden Stud/ David Redvers for $1million.
Yarraman Park sold 39 mares for $12,593,500 over the four days of the sale with highlights coming courtesy of Erato ($1.75 million), Invincible Star ($1.45 million) and Whispering Brook ($1.1million).
The dam of this season’s Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre, Erato was offered in foal to Russian Revolution on behalf of Australian Bloodstock and was snapped up by Yu Long Investments.
“Obviously she’s a blue hen,” Sam Fairgray said after signing for the second highest priced mare of the entire sale. “It’s a great family and she’s produced the Blue Diamond winner.
“Mr Zhang was very keen to get her and we are very pleased she will be joining the Yu Long team.”
Erato provided the team from Australian Bloodstock with a dream result. They purchased her for $120,000 two years ago at the National Broodmare Sale when she was offered through the Godolphin draft. With her first foal since winning the Blue Diamond Stakes the team decided to offered her in foal to Russian Revolution and it proved a masterstroke.
Brilliant I Am Invincible mare Invincible Star was offered straight off the track and will be heading to Triple Crown winner Justify this spring after being bought by Tom Magnier / James Bester Bloodstock.
Invincible Star was bred by Yarraman and sold originally at Magic Millions for $200,000, so her sale was a sentimental highlight.
“She was a very good two-year-old who trained on to virtually win the Coolmore to our own $30 million horse Merchant Navy,” Bester said.
“She showed herself in every start to be one of the finest fillies in Australia. She’s by I Am Invincible from a strong family – a no brainer!”
Hinchinbrook’s multiple Group III winning daughter Whispering Brook was knocked down to Katsumi Yoshida producing a dream ending to a great career for her owners.
“What a great result,” her former managing owner Alan Macalister said. “It was great to have her back on the Gold Coast where our trainer Simon Miller purchased her as a weanling.”
“She was a really wonderful mare for us and it’s just been a magnificent ride with Whispering Brook.”
