Yarraman Park Stud has some exciting news for Australian breeders with their acquisition of champion racehorse Trotamondo (Chi), a son of outstanding sire Hussonet (pictured), who has made such a keen impact in this country through the deeds of star three year-old Weekend Hussler, Blue Diamond winner Reaan and others.
“Trotamondo is widely acknowledged as the best son of Hussonet to leave South America and was Chilean Horse of the Year in 2005 after winning their Triple Crown,” said Arthur Mitchell.
“He was an exceptional racehorse who also won in America and the best part about him is that he is the image of Hussonet.”
Sent to North America as a four year-old and placed in the care of Group One trainer Laura de Seroux, Trotamondo won the Group Three Native Diver Stakes at Hollywood Park at his second run back after a year layoff.
"It takes a heck of a special horse to win the Triple Crown, to show the consistency that he showed last year, and to be named the horse of the year as a 3-year-old," de Seroux said in her post race comments.
"So I think he is the best thing we’ve had on our hands since Azeri (champion mare). That’s what we’ve been feeling lately. After that first race – with the run that he made – it confirmed our hopes."
Unfortunately, Trotamondo went amiss shortly after to the great fortune of Australian breeders who will now have the opportunity to utilise a horse regarded as one of Hussonet’s finest.
Trotamondo won six races from 1300 to 2200 metres including three Group Ones and boasts an all American pedigree being from Movie Producer (USA), a grand-daughter of Exclusive Native.
Movie Producer is also the dam of another Chilean Group One winner in Madame Victoire and is a half-sister to American Group Two winner Parlay Me, who was also twice second in Group One events.
“He’s a magnificent individual, free of Northern Dancer blood and given the way Hussonet is going in Australia we thought he was an outstanding prospect,” Mitchell added.
A fee for Trotamondo (Chi) is to be announced.
