Yarraman Park based sires enjoyed a sensational weekend with Magic Albert posting his all-important first Group One winner in Magic Cape and Golden Slipper winner Catbird chiming in with a winning double at Sandown led by stakes-winning filly Catechuchu.
“Magic Albert has been doing a sensational job this season in producing 12 individual Australian winners including stakes horses Magic Jet and Maritess, but to get a Group One winner takes him to a new level,” said Harry Mitchell.
“He is the only Australian based second season sire so far to have a Southern Hemisphere Group One winner and when you consider the quality of mare he covered as compared to some of his peers, the achievement is all the more remarkable.”
Having just his fifth race start, the Shaune Ritchie trained Magic Cape settled at the rear of the field before making a sustained run down the outside of the track, surging past Jokers Wild to win the Group One CJC NZ Two Thousand Guineas by a neck.
A leggy chestnut from the Kaapstad mare Cape City, Magic Cape now has three wins and a placing from five starts with earnings in excess of $200,000.
Magic Albert also featured at Rosehill as the sire of impressive two-year old winner Lieserl, which will be aimed at the $500,000 Inglis Classic by trainer Gai Waterhouse.
Super consistent sire Catbird passed a milestone at the weekend with his progeny earnings for the season passing $1million following a flurry of winners highlighted by Catechuchu and Jennings.
Buyers at Magic Millions 2007 can look forward to a plentiful selection of yearlings by Catbird with some 31 youngsters catalogued over all sessions.
Yarraman Park will offer half a dozen superb yearlings by Catbird in the select first four sessions: a full brother to Group Two winner Diego Garcia; the first foal (colt) of stakes-winning mare Amphritite; a half-brother to stakes-winner Stormcat Academy; a filly from stakes-winner Eyes to Spy; a full sister to Group Two placed Star Cat; and a filly from Group Two placed Lady Lexus.
Yarraman will also offer an outstanding half-sister by Magic Albert to quality mare Maitland Gold, winner of the Group Two STC Phar Lap Stakes, to be offered in Session Five.
