The official Sydney two year-old trials at Randwick on Monday morning produced some promising winners including two youngsters sold by Yarraman Park in Ebenos and The Reverend Demon. Godolphin looked set for victory in heat eight with Exceed and Excel colt Thar until the Gai Waterhouse trained I Am Invincible colt Ebenos knuckled down and ran him down to win by half a length. A $300,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Gai Waterhouse from the Yarraman Park draft, Ebenos was the second highest priced yearling sold at that sale and runs in the colours of Greg and Donna Kolivos of Pierro fame. He is the second and final foal of Pure Ebony, a winning half-sister by Sunday Silence sire Genuine (Jpn) to stakes-winner Conquering Queen. Gai Waterhouse has had very little exposure to I Am Invincible up to this point, but Ebenos might convert her to being fan! Five horses went to the line all close together in heat six with the Bjorn Baker trained Hinchinbrook colt The Reverend Demon doing best with the aid of the fence to keep him on the job. A $120,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park, The Reverend Demon is the second foal of Group III placed Galileo (IRE) mare Bronislava, who traces back to celebrated matriarch Terlingua, whose family features champion sires Storm Cat and Royal Academy. The Reverend Demon has a yearling full brother in the pipeline and was covered last spring by I am Invincible.
