Melbourne, March 29 – This three year-old son of Zabeel was fourth in the Group I VRC Victoria Derby back in the spring and broke his maiden by eight lengths at Geelong on Thursday, so his name is well worth noting.
Having his third run back from a spell, the Leon Corstens trained Zabeelionaire relished the step up to 1700 metres and gave his rivals a thorough caning when strolling home to win by eight lengths with Glen Boss in the saddle.
Sent out a short priced favourite, Zabeelionaire settled third and gradually rolled up to the leaders on the turn before accelerating sharply to the line to win by daylight in a performance that will no doubt give him plenty of confidence going forward.
A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park, Zabeelionaire is bred to stay all day and is the first winner for Group II placed Carnegie (IRE) mare Kisumu, who comes from the family of Group I winner Vialli.
Yarraman Park will offer another stellar draft at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
