Scone, May 15 – Yarraman Park sold Catbird mare Purrpurrlena nearly provided a dream result for connections when she finished a close second in the Yarraman Park sponsored Listed Dark Jewel Classic at Scone on Friday.

The Grahame Begg trained mare has been in top form of late and followed up on her good last third in the Listed Darley Crown at Hawkesbury with another fine effort to be beaten a long neck by So Anyway at Scone in a thrilling finish.

Purrpurrlena has won three races and placed six times from 19 starts earning $163,190 for the Echo Beach Syndicate and BN Singer.

A $155,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Purrpurrlena was also bred by Yarraman and is a full sister to Group Two placed sprinter Star Cat being from the former smart stakes-winner Magdalena.

Magdalena has no yearling for the sales this year, but did produce a filly by Trotamondo (Chi) last spring
