Sydney August 24 – Progressive Queensland sprinter Albert the Fat made an eye-catching debut to Sydney racing when charging home from near last to finish third to Swift Alliance in the Listed AJC Show County Quality at Randwick on Saturday.
The handsome chestnut son of Magic Albert was partnered by regular rider Brad Pengelly who was well pleased with his performance.
“It was a nice effort,” said Pengelly.
“We just wanted a bit more speed. He’d had enough on the line, so he will derive plenty of benefit from the run. I think he is definitely up to the grade.”
A winner at nine of his 16 starts with more than $260,000 in prizemoney, the Eden Petrie trained Albert the Fat was a $40,000 purchase for Wadham Park from the draft of Rheinwood Pastoral during Session Five at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Albert the Fat is from the Bureaucracy mare Alemar, a full sister to stakes-placed Mastery.
Alemar produced a full brother to Albert the Fat last year and was covered again by Magic Albert so is expecting another full sibling this spring.
