Newcastle, September 18 – Lightly raced sprinter Magic Cassius returned from a long layoff of some 65 weeks to score a well-deserved win in the $30,600 Hurricane Stakes at Newcastle on Wednesday.

Trained by Angela Davies, the six year-old Magic Albert gelding found the line strongly to win the 900 metre dash by a long neck, his overall record now six wins and a placing from eight starts with prizemoney topping $85,000.

Retained to race, Magic Cassius is the first winner for Melbourne metropolitan winner Palace Archway, a half-sister to handy galloper Floral Insight from the family of stakes-winners Bulbasaur and Commanding Hope.

Palace Archway was covered again by Magic Albert last spring so will produce a full sibling to Magic Cassius this year.

Magic Cassius is one of 10 winners in Australia and New Zealand for Magic Albert since the start of the month.

Completely free of Northern Dancer, Mr Prospector and Star Kingdom, Magic Albert is the outcross sire that works and stands at Yarraman Park at a fee of $19,250.
