The China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and partners enjoyed stakes success on Thursday when the Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford was won by four year-old gelding Calanda, a $200,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling purchase from the Yarraman Park draft.

Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Calanda has been fourth, second and fourth again in recent stakes starts and scored a well-deserved win in the 1200 metre sprint.

Ridden by Blake Shinn, the son of Snitzel scored a long head win taking his overall record to six wins from 16 starts with prizemoney topping $545,000.

Purchased by China Horse Club/ Michael Wallace Bloodstock from the Yarraman Park draft, Calanda is a half-brother to Group II winners Silverstream and Speedy Natalie and is the seventh winner from stakes-winner Speedy Bell, who died in 2016.
