Sydney, November 27 – Five year-old Catbird mare Purrpurrlena looks set for another good campaign after producing a barnstorming run from last to win the open handicap over 1400 metres at Randwick on Saturday over stakes-winner Kanzan.

The Grahame Begg trained mare was placed several times last preparation in Black Type events and judging by this performance her turn at a Listed win of her own can’t be far away.

Purrpurrlena has the overall record of four wins and eight placings from 23 starts with prizemoney of $218,590.

A $155,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Purrpurrlena was also bred by Yarraman and is a full sister to Group Two placed sprinter Star Cat being from the former smart stakes-winner Magdalena.

Magdalena has a yearling filly by Trotamondo (Chi), but no foal this spring having had a year off in 2009.
