Kembla Grange, October 28 – Leading South Coast trainer Gwenda Markwell led in five winners at the first Kembla meeting back since the outbreak of EI with Magic Albert gelding Al Be Nimble one of her star performers.

Stakes-placed during the autumn when second in the Listed STC Darby Munro Quality at Rosehill, Al Be Nimble has returned in great shape cruising away from his rivals in the 82 Rating Handicap over 1200 metres to win by three and a half lengths.

With two wins and two seconds from six starts, Al Be Nimble is lightly raced for a four year-old and could be worth following as racing gets back on it’s feet in New South Wales over the summer months.

Retained to race by his breeder, Al Be Nimble is the second living foal of the imported Danehill mare Nimble (IRE), a winner at 1600 metres in Italy.

Nimble (IRE) has an unnamed two year-old full sister to Al Be Nimble, but unfortunately missed to Magic Albert when covered last spring.

Gwenda Markwell also took the opening maiden event with Catbird filly Mollycat, who was sent out favourite and duly saluted by the best part of a length at just her third race start.

A $34,000 purchase from Session Six at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Mollycat is the fourth foal of the Sir Tristram (IRE) mare Elegant Beauty, a daughter of Group One placed Perlia Bay from the family of stakes-winners Sonolia, Time Off and Resonare.
