Yarraman Park based Brave Smash (Jpn) is a promising young sire, whose best bred progeny are yet to race, but he’s still ticking along nicely with what he has and posted a debut juvenile winner on Tuesday for the Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable.
Pulp Friction was easy in the market for the 1200m juvenile maiden at Ballarat on the all weather track, but was strong to the line for Fred Kersley to surge between runners and snatch a half length win.
Pulp Friction was a $42,500 Inglis Classic purchase from Lucas Bloodstock for McEvoy Mitchell Racing / Belmont Bloodstock and runs for a big group of stable clients.
She is the second winner from three foals to race from Lemon Sweet, a winning half-sister by Bradbury’s Luck to the dam of dual Group I winner Historian.
Pulp Friction is the 40th winner (one each in Hong Kong and Malaysia) this season for Brave Smash and they are headed by Group II BRC Queensland Guineas winner Brave Monarch and stakes-placed Brave Danza along with Sydney metro winners Smashing Time and Power of the Brave.
The first of the Yarraman Park bred Brave Smash 2YOs will race next season and they were popular at the sales this year with his overall yearling average for 2026 ($88,270) the best he has ever recorded.
Brave Smash set a new benchmark for himself in the sale ring this year with a colt from Tetsuko selling to George Moore Bloodstock for $380,000, while a colt from The Natural sold for $300,000 at Inglis Classic to Graham Begg Racing / Rohan Hughes.
Brave Smash has sired five stakes-winners to date headed by Group I winner Kimochi and with the promise of better quality offspring in the pipeline is priced to appeal this spring at $22,000.
