Melbourne, October 7 – Star producer Oceanfast maintained her perfect record of seven foals to race all winners when promising colt Mega Rich opened his account with a four length win at Sale on Friday.
The son of Exceed And Excel was quickly away with jockey Daniel Moor electing to drive the three-year-old to the lead from barrier 15.
Rounding the turn the field closed the margin, but the blue-blood kicked strongly to win the 1424 metre maiden as he pleased.
“It was a pretty lacklustre field and I didn’t want to be held up behind horses,” Moor said.
“He flattened out really well.”
Moor said Mega Rich (pictured courtesy Taron Clarke Photography) showed a good turn of foot, but said the best was yet to come from the Anthony Freedman-trained three year-old.
“He’s well bred and if he continues to improve he’ll hold his own in better races,” he said.
Withdrawn from the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and retained to race by Yarraman Park and partners, Mega Rich is a half-brother to four -time Group I winner and champion filly Alinghi as well as stakes-placed Perfect Persuasion and Slice of Paradise, the dam of Group III winner Beneteau.
A sale ring favourite, whose yearlings have sold for $2.6 million, $2.2 million and $1.4 million, Oceanfast has a yearling colt by More Than Ready (USA) and has already produced a Fastnet Rock colt this spring.
