Sydney, Adelaide, January 6 – Fresh from the success of siring Group Two WATC Perth Cup winner Cats Fun, Golden Slipper winner Catbird was back in the winning groove on Saturday with a two state metropolitan double courtesy of Buzzy Henry and Letmeentertainyou.
Narrowly beaten at his first two runs back after EI, the Gai Waterhouse trained Buzzy Henry put the best foot forward at Royal Randwick on Saturday when he raced handy throughout and powered to the line to win the Ratings 83 Handicap over 1400 metres.
Buzzy Henry has won three races and placed four times from 11 starts earning $158,800 for his large group of owners.
Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Buzzy Henry fetched $170,000 to the bid of Waterhouse at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
He is a half-brother to the stakes-winner Stormcat Academy being from the good metropolitan winner Cotton Bay, who has a yearling full brother to Buzzy Henry and had a filly this spring by Foreplay.
Adelaide based four year-old Letmeentertainyou made it back to back wins at Morphettville when he surged home to win the Class Six event over 1100 metres.
He did the job easily for local trainer Bart Merrall, taking his overall record to four wins and two placings from 13 starts with earnings just shy of $70,000.
Letmeentertainyou was a $260,000 purchase from the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale out of the draft of Edinglassie Stud and is from the Royal Academy (USA) mare News Academy, a half-sister to former brilliant stakes-winning juvenile Catnipped.
Fans of Catbird will be pleased to note he has four yearlings catalogued for the 2008 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and two for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
The winning run continued on Sunday at Sha Tin where Catbird featured as the sire of handy galloper Bold Win.
Trained by David Hall and ridden by Brett Prebble, the six year-old took out the Class Three event over 1600 metres in a tight finish scoring by a short head.
A $45,000 purchase by respected bloodstock agent John Foote from the 2003 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Bold Win was initially trained by Danny O’Brien under the name of Succotash and won a race at Morphettville prior to his transfer to Hong Kong.
Bold Win is from the imported mare Recant (USA), a half-sister to several American stakes-winners by Sky Classic.
