The juvenile event at Eagle Farm on Saturday featured first starters by Yarraman sires Brave Smash (Jpn) and I Am Invincible and they duly filled the quinella.

The Matt Dunn-trained Brave Smash filly, Strawberry Smash, was second in a recent trial at Beaudesert and despite being easy in the market she hit the line full of running to beat Tony Gollan’s I Am Invincible colt Lockyer by three-quarters of a length in the 1000m scamper with more than four lengths back to the rest.

Strawberry Smash was a modest $17,500 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Goldmount Lodge and Lockyer is a graduate of Yarraman Park.

Strawberry Smash is the first winner from the third crop of foals by Brave Smash, whose first Hunter-bred foals are arriving this spring.
