Melbourne, September 18 – For a vendor to have a dead heat victory in a Group III event with two horses that you have sold is a fairytale result, but unfortunately for Yarraman Park it was a fairytale that didn’t last.
Perth based filly Bliss Street showed she was on track for a big spring campaign when she flashed home to win a dramatic Group III MRC Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400 metres at Caulfield on Saturday.
The judge decided on a dead heat after he couldn’t split Bliss Street and recent Flemington stakes winner Celebrity Girl (3f Starcraft x Dashing Granada) – both foaled, raised and sold as yearlings by Yarraman Park – but the latter was relegated to fourth after a protest from Mosheen’s rider Danny Nikolic was quickly upheld by stewards.
The official placings were then declared with Bliss Street first from Hallowell Belle and Mosheen, with the erratic Celebrity Girl demoted to fourth.
Winning trainer Dan Morton, who has won Group I races in Melbourne with Scenic Shot and Scenic Blast, is looking forward to the Group I Thousand Guineas next month with his promising filly.
“I thought we were going to run second all the way down the straight,” Morton said.
“That was a really good effort as she’s come from last.
“She’d had a really good week so I was pretty impressed with that.
“In the back of my mind I said to the guys that I think if we run two or three lengths off them today I’m going to be happy moving forward to a mile, so I couldn’t be happier.”
Bliss Street (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Dan Morton from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud for $100,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Along with her earnings of over $269,000, Bliss Street is a very valuable young filly, having now won group races in two states, her juvenile season yielding success in the Group III WATC Sires Produce Stakes.
A daughter of Danehill’s Golden Slipper winning sire son Flying Spur, Bliss Street was also bred by Yarraman Park and partners and is the first stakes-winner for the stakes winning Jade Robbery (USA) mare Jade Diva, who is due to foal to Wanted this spring.
Jade Diva won two races at two including the Listed MVRC Silver Jubilee Stakes at Moonee Valley and was also fourth in a Group II Schweppes Stakes and Group III Blue Diamond Prelude.
